Relevancy
The engine results will depend on
where the information the user is looking for is; and, how is the
credibility of that source on that particular topic.
In order to find “relevant” sites or pages relative to the search terms
used by a user, the engine will consult the pages in its own database
for the search and related terms. The consulted page’s relevance will be
established on the basis of several factors like text content, keywords
meta tag, title, description meta tag, file name, and alt images tags.
The more your URL page is in other’s page links, the more relevant your
page is assumed. The links are more important if they include search
terms.
The more a page is in a site which content theme is consider related to
the search terms, the more a page will be relevant. The site theme
extraction is an example of a technology that has been adopted by all
major engines.
But over everything else, the page must give to the user useful content;
ideally he/she will find there the information that he/she was seeking
for, and much more. It will be helpful if the site to which the page
belongs also covers other topics that may be considered more detailed or
complementary to the original search terms.
Ideally, your site will have so much useful, updated, and relevant
content, that eventually it may be classified by search engines as an
“authority site”. At this point, your page rank will be a high one and
your site will be amongst the first places of the search results.
